Not So Happy Accidents

Yesterday, I took a trip to my local Michaels, a craft/art supply store, because I wanted to buy some Scupley Modeling Clay because they were on sale of course!

I spent the afternoon making this giant peacock pendant for a necklace. It was soo pretty and I spent a lot of effort on it.

The work in progress.

It was then time to bake. The instructions said to bake at 275 F for 15 minutes every 1/4 of an inch. And it nicely reminded me: "DO NOT over bake." I was like I so got this, so off Mr. Peacock went into the oven while I went upstairs to cut my grandma's hair. I had asked my dad to watch it and come call me at 3:27 when it was 15 minutes later. I was excited for my lovely new over sized peacock pendant.

Suddenly after only 7 minutes my dad calls me and tells me that my dear ole Mr. Peacock had burned. I stood there. Then screamed. And screamed. And cried. Then screamed a little more. I couldn't believe it. I thought my dad was being a stooge and lying to me, but no, he in fact was being an honest man. Mr. Peacock had indeed suffered a irreversible third degree burn. (more like a million degree burn)

RIP
My beautiful turquoise and blue bird of love had turned into a piece of poop. Literally. It seriously looks like a piece of crap complete with these weird tumors that covered its poor body.
What to do?! I thought to myself. I did not want to make another one because I had ran out of clay so the best thing I could think of was to bring Mr. Peacock back to life with a little help of acrylic paint.
A "new" Mr. Peacock
I'm still sad about it because it just doesn't look the same. But whatever. You've got to learn to deal with burning peacocks. It's just a fact in life.

I've learned, that when life gives you rotten lemons, you just got to suck it up and perhaps make some cruddy lemonade while you're at it.

This post has me laughing. That poor, burnt peacock with the little RIP written under him. I'm sorry because I'm sure you weren't laughing--I love the revival with the acrylic paint--he looks very dramatic as a pendant!
