Change is in the H'air

I've always been the type of girl to skip the beauty sections of fash mags. Makeup and hair just didn't quite do it for me as I preferred the more tangible clothing lust I experienced from the editorials. I am now regretting that I've been a bad fashionista because I think it's finally time to admit I need a hair cut.

I've been growing my hair out long for a while. I say I will cut it until I reach the point of mermaid hair. You know, the hair that reaches down to cover certain, ahem, body parts? Don't ask me why. Perhaps I've always secretly admired The Birth of Venus by Botticelli and have subconsciously made her my style icon.

But now I believe it is the time that I trim my locks. I haven't gone to a real haircutting place in I would say almost 3 years. I've always just cut it myself and have been happy with it. The only difficulty has been cutting the back. And now, it looks like I have a tail for hair as the sides get trimmer, that center back keeps on growing like an undying weed.

I realized I needed a haircut when I started getting choked by my hair while sleeping. I've grown comfortable with having long hair. It used to be something I so did not want but now, I just might be one of those people that freak out when getting a haircut.

I feel it is time for change. I feel that this physical change is a symbol of a personal and internal change that I hope to accomplish as well. I don't know if I'll have time to get it cut before Italy but who knows, I just might get fed up with everything that I decided to take a razor to my scalp. I've actually always wanted to know what I look like bald. They say that true beauty is a bald woman who still looks beautiful. Actually, I don't know if they say that but I'll just pretend they do. The only fear I have is that when I do turn bald that I'll realize how horrendously fugly I am. For now, I'll keep on to some hair.

I never could determine my face shape so finding those "Perfect hair for your face shape" articles always irritated me.

My computerized stylist has given me some options. What say you?

I honestly think that you'd look great with whatever hairstyle you chose!

I agree with kd: you'll probably rock whatever hairstyle you decide on! My problem whenever I do decide to get my hair cut is that my hair is super thick Asian hair, so hairstyles on Caucasian celebs don't really leave me inspired. I find this website with its thousands of pics of Asian hairstyles really helpful. Now I always scour the pics for ideas before I go to my hairdresser.

I vote for the afro.

But really, change can be good. My hair was just past my shoulders when I went to get it trimmed and ended up with my hair a good 5 inches shorter. I was freaked at first, but I've grown to really love it.

Oh and I hate those "perfect hair for your face shape" articles too!!

LOL -- I like that sort of multiple-mohawk look.

I like the long layered look. By the way, I like the new look of your blog. I can't wait to see what type of hairstyle you choose!

Go for the fro, haha!
I linked you too btw. ;D

And as the others said, I'm sure you'll rock any style you choose! I would say go for something versatile, so you won't get bored of it too quick.

I know the feeling of wanting to change your hair kind of like to reflect a change in yourself. But your long hair is so beautiful, I would keep it!

i think you should keep your hair long. try some layering if you say you need a change, but don't cut it short!
thanks for the link, thought you forgot about it. xo

I love your hair long, but I think you would look good with a layered bob, a little longer than chin length. But the 'fro is looking mighty sweet too.

That is awesome| so what did you end up doing with the buckles? did you make anything with them?

i like the first short one, i think it'd look really good on you. but i don't think you should cut your hair in the first place!! long hair suits you really well, and plus asian hair is like impossibly shiny and thick and healthy and gorgeous so if i were you i'd make the most of genetics and keep it long, maybe get it layered or something.

ouu, hair cut time! how exciting!
you should get lots of short & long layers and maybe just a trim so you still have lots of length. :)

I'm loving the long layered with mohawk look! Haha but I think you could rock just about any of these looks... I'm not very helpful but yeah. And I'm waiting for the very end to bid... as long as my parents approve ("why do you need a hippie wedding dress?!") *eyeroll*.

I'm thinking you might look good with that bob-type thing on the bottom right corner of the short hair..or there are always liberty spikes.

though the photo option isn't here, i would get REALLY blunt bangs cut right across the front. i think you could totally rock those!

i absolutely love the first hair cut!! you would look great with super short hair, your face is perfect for it

I actually really like your long 'mermaid hair' on you, as you call it, but I think with short or long hair, you'd look great.

I say go with the fro!

Wow....it is a hard choice to make. JUST PLEASE DO NOT PULL A BRITTNY AND GO BALD!!!

GO FO THE FRO!

Ey ey ey...no short hair. Do that when you get old and middle-aged.

Fashion Tidbits said...

oh my dear, i have no idea. if you want to go for a short do, perhaps a middle-length cut is better than a straight hacking off. you might get a shock

Samantha said...

Ahahaha I'm all for hacking it all off at once. But I think you would look very cute with an emo boy haircut (left of afro) or anything boyish (above emo boy haircut... the Spock/bowl one).

BUT YOU SHOULD KEEP YOUR MERMAID HAIR! You can always go shorter but you can't go longer without extensions :( At least wait a while before you decide to take the plunge.
