Teeth: A Nasty-Funny Night

Okay, so I think I've just came back from one of the most "interesting" movies that I will ever see in my life. Remember, "interesting" has many meanings.

I went with Beckster to go watch Teeth, an indie flick directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein which comes out in selected theaters tomorrow. (That's about as in depth-movie-analyzing-ish I will attempt to get). If I could categorize this movie into one category, I would say it falls perfectly into the Nasty-Funny-Feminist-AntiMen-Gross category. IMDB lists it under horror and dark comedy, but I think my category is a bit better in explaining what this movie is exactly about.

But let's go back a bit. During my BB meeting on Monday, this movie was listed as an event that we could receive credit for. I put it down on my list to sign up for it however I quickly scribbled it out when the board told us that it was a horror movie. Great. I hate being scared. Then, an interesting statement was said: "It's about a girl who has teeth where a girl should NOT have teeth". Okay, I thought. Now being the slow thinker that I am, I was thinking, WTF?! In her armpits?! Teeth in her hair!?? Now that is pretty gross and scary. However, after five minutes, it clicked. Oh Shoot. Oh shoot. You mean down there.....

So yes my friends, I just watched a movie about a girl who has teeth down there. Now if you don't catch what I mean by "down there" let me just clarify by saying that I am not referring to her feet. I watched the trailer and the editors did build it up to fall under the horror genre with eerie clips and screams and blackness all mixed in. But the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to watch it. I read the reviews and many people said that the movie was funny, so "hmmm" I thought. Afterall, there is a very "positive" message out there that it sends out for people and it is quite a pro-women movie because seriously, you can't help but feel that the scummy men got what they deserved. The movie is based on the myth of the vagina dentata, I won't go too much into it, but you can always google it up.

The movie is rated R, but that's only because of the graphic images of bitten off you-know-what, some nudity, and because of well, the subject matter at hand. The lead actress was really delightful and made you instantly gravitate towards her side even if she is the one with vicious teeth. It was really a dark comedy and the whole audience laughed nearly every five minutes so anti-horror people, do not be afraid, it's really not that bad. There is gore, but it's just so wrong that it's right and that it's funny. You can't help but laugh.

I would like to point out, that this is probably not the best movie to take your date to.

ahahaha!!! I actually saw the teaser awhile ago. They advertise it as a horror movie, but I kept thinking that it's impossible to take this seriously...

I've been hearing about this for a while...the whole thought of teeth down there makes me go 'YIIIIIIII!' and *ohgodIhopeIdonthavethattoo*- but I do want to see this. Even at the risk of being grossed out.
