Shameless in the Night.

I am the blogger with no shame. ROAR.

I was going to just leave this post as is with these pictures but I feel that I should explain for the sake of my reputation.

A few hours ago I was talking to CB and randomly decided to dress up. Dress up I did. After weeks if not months of normalcy I think I finally exploded and churned up this tackalicious ensemble. I grabbed my sister and off we went to do an impromptu photoshoot at midnight - the most magical time of the day! Don't believe me? Just take a look as those first to pictures for proof. Magic I say. Zoolander would be proud.

By the end of our 30 minute shoot a grumpy daddy came out the hallway and all I did was ROFL. Literally. I was looking like this:

I was so happy with our shoot that I ran off to show CB and had another good hour of laughing. I will forever keep this in my LOL folder and title it Shameless in the Night, because you folks better believe that I got no shame.

As a fashion blogger, there are standards to uphold. There is an image that is kept. We like to be taken seriously and have people fawn over our impeccable style. We pose our cute, innocent, demure poses. We turn to the camera, and look over our shoulders with the expression Oh, a camera is there? and a seemingly perfect candid shot is created. We like to be stylish and edgy. Throw our head around a bit for our perfect hair to be captured by the click of a camera. Pose in awkward angular poses that mirrors the great fashion magazines. We contrast our photos to make it even more RAWR and edgy. We do it all with great pride and confidence.

But tonight I decided to change it up a bit - just a bit. Makeup free, ready for bed, an oily faced hot mess with a Miss Piggy-esque face and I love it. I ain't ashamed to let my ugly out.

Fashion should be fun and exciting. I wish the whole world one day would just dress up. For one day. I want to see tutus and feathered boas and sparkle. And it would be the happiest day in the world, without fighting, without violence, without pain. We would all come out in our most delish outfits. We would look at one another. Hug one another. And then start laughing at one another, because seriously I couldn't stop laughing when I wore this. It would most definitely be the happiest day ever.

Okay, granted I look like a costume store landed ontop of me during tornado season but you know what, I love this and California doens't have tornados so it's not possible. I have been stuck with t-shirts and shorts and flip flops too long this summer and finally my inspiration is back. I can't wait till fall rolls around. School better be ready because there is no viewer discretion is advised next time around.

P.S. Who would have know that Art Geek and Fashion Freak really emphasizes the freak in me.

P.P.S I ain't dissing fashion bloggers. I love them with all my heart.

I'm a Model You Know What I Mean

If you haven't noticed, my octupus modeling face hasn't been around the fashion world lately. The last you've probably seen of me was from the 08/09 Fall fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris. All you fashion hungry folks must be all "Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?" except fill in Carmen San Diego with LalaLiu.

Well, if you must know, my modeling status has jumped from runway to print and editorials. Better yet, I've become my own brand. For reals you ask? Fo real.

Here's a sneak peak at what I've been up to. The shoots have a lets go traveling theme since I'm leaving in 5 days for studying abroad. Although I'm a world famous octopus-faced-muse-to-designers-and-supermodel extraordinarie, I still attend school because what's beauty without brains.

Let me bath in my on vanity once again.

Lala's Style of the Day & Adventures in LA

  • Psychedelic-JesusChristSuperstar-Ultra-Flared-Kaleidoscope Pants of Awesomeness: $2 thrift. Words cannot describe how awesome these pants are.
  • White tank: Guess? outlet
  • Yellow belt: $2 tjmaxx
  • Watch necklace
  • New Lolita glasses: $4 TYM.

I realize I am a bit ridiculous in this outfit. But I love it. so. so. much. I went to LA today to visit my favorite ghetto superstar along with Busababe and KC. We journeyed public transportation style. Yeah baby, going green. I decided I had to wear these pants that I bought a while ago and posted somewhere in the archives of this wee blog. I thought I would never get the chance to show it out in public, but today, I did not hold back. I said I was going for it. This adventure today was as much about my super socially awkward friends as it was the pants. I should seriously make a book about it except I might get sued for copyright infringement since there is another book out there about pants. But these pants beat those pants any day.

When I woke up in the morning and showed my mom what I was going to wear, she gave me a pained expression and said, "Do you have to?". I said, "Yes. I have to."

She gave up. I think she gave up the day I turned weird. Which is like, my birth date.

I carpooled with mom to the train station and she asked me, "How do you pee with those pants?". I made a wtf face. "Umm, they're just like regular pants." I replied.

"Oh, I thought you had to take it all off to pee."

"Um. No. They're just pants. But cooler."

We arrived and I met up with Busababe (she was dressed super cute by the way!!) and off to LA we went. On the way we flipped through Nylon. And we started talking fashion. I started asking her what she liked. She told me. And then I started questioning what my personal style was. I looked down. Definitely, not normal.

KC greeted us with her monkey face. We bused it to ghettosuperstar. It felt like I was being a tourist at my own school. I danced with the bear. Actually, I was trying to smack it's butt. No. I ain't kinky.

We visited the apartment then off to Westwood for a little TYMing. I finally found heart shaped sunglasses! I've been wanting them ever since they became cool but haven't found them anywhere for cheap. Now that they're a little passe, it's the perfect time for me to wear them out. I'm always behind on trends. I tend to pick things up after all hipsters and trendistas have gone through them. I blame it on my genetic procrastination skills.

Afterwards, with my new sunglasses on face, we went to Santa Monica. Walked around and touched sand. It was bliss.

In order to catch the train, we had to leave a little early than I would have liked. We jumped on a random bus that took forever. On the way we discussed many important topics in life. Such as fetishes, afros, and priests. We finally were fed up with the slow-mo bus that we jumped off when we saw a metroline.

The highlight of my day occurred on the metro.

We were standing in the middle, holding a pole. Outside the window I see a face painted man coming in. I thought he was coming back from some baseball game or something. But nope, he was actually a clown. I didn't give much thought, but just kept looking into space. He looked a little creepy and Busababe looked at him and then looked at me and told me that he was looking at us.

I looked over. He saw me look over. And then he asked in a serious manner, "Are you a clown?"

Internally, I exploded with laughter. Externally, I exploded with laughter.

"Oh. No. Sorry."

Dude. I do not have clown pants man. I don't even look like a clown! Okay, don't answer that. I think he was jealous that he didn't have any awesome pants. When I later told my mom, she said, "He must of thought you were stealing his customers."

Highlight of my day. Enough said. I couldn't look back at him for the longest time. I was finally glad that we made it to the station because this clown looked mighty creepy.

We ran to the train, but it left without us even though we were standing right there. Oh well I thought. That gives more time for the three stooges, aka us, to be lame.

I made it home. And so did my pants. That sounds a little dirty or maybe I'm just thinking dirty since busbabe enlightened me with all her human sexuality knowledge.

I really must sleep. Super tired from waking up at 6:30

P.S Remember this. Only two days left.

Change is in the H'air

I've always been the type of girl to skip the beauty sections of fash mags. Makeup and hair just didn't quite do it for me as I preferred the more tangible clothing lust I experienced from the editorials. I am now regretting that I've been a bad fashionista because I think it's finally time to admit I need a hair cut.

I've been growing my hair out long for a while. I say I will cut it until I reach the point of mermaid hair. You know, the hair that reaches down to cover certain, ahem, body parts? Don't ask me why. Perhaps I've always secretly admired The Birth of Venus by Botticelli and have subconsciously made her my style icon.

But now I believe it is the time that I trim my locks. I haven't gone to a real haircutting place in I would say almost 3 years. I've always just cut it myself and have been happy with it. The only difficulty has been cutting the back. And now, it looks like I have a tail for hair as the sides get trimmer, that center back keeps on growing like an undying weed.

I realized I needed a haircut when I started getting choked by my hair while sleeping. I've grown comfortable with having long hair. It used to be something I so did not want but now, I just might be one of those people that freak out when getting a haircut.

I feel it is time for change. I feel that this physical change is a symbol of a personal and internal change that I hope to accomplish as well. I don't know if I'll have time to get it cut before Italy but who knows, I just might get fed up with everything that I decided to take a razor to my scalp. I've actually always wanted to know what I look like bald. They say that true beauty is a bald woman who still looks beautiful. Actually, I don't know if they say that but I'll just pretend they do. The only fear I have is that when I do turn bald that I'll realize how horrendously fugly I am. For now, I'll keep on to some hair.

I never could determine my face shape so finding those "Perfect hair for your face shape" articles always irritated me.

My computerized stylist has given me some options. What say you?

Freeing my Ugly.

--------Readers be forewarned of the horrors that lie ahead.----------

In my self deluded world, I believe that everybody has an ugly. Whether we are born with the genetics of gods and goddesses or with the genetics of the opposite of gods and goddesses, everyone has those uglies. Sometimes ugly is clearly visible displaying itself 24/7, other times it's hidden, only emerging after the night has slept and you are alone ready to face the ugly yourself and only yourself.

What do I mean by an ugly?

Well, you know, it's just when people get ugly. And I refuse to believe that nobody never gets an ugly every once in a while. If you believe that you do, contact me ASAP. I need to know your secrets, or better yet, just tell me what plastic surgeon hooked you up.

An ugly is not a bad thing. It's just simply a part of life. It's a human thing. And recently, I've been facing a whole lot of ugly everytime I look in the mirror.

Now most fashion bloggers would never let their readers see their uglies. Afterall, they do have to maintain an image of a glorious fashion gal that looks so fashionable in whatever duds they throw on. Fashion is an image. They take pictures, post their daily outfits, pose with poise and awkward grace. All the while keeping their uglies hidden; locked away in the bottom cellar only able to come out when the lights are out and the camera is switched off.

I, however, am not most fashion bloggers. While I don't find myself gifted with genes of gorgeousness, my ugly has come out and has overloaded my normal level of ugliness. I would like to show readers that I too am human and have an ugly. Hey now, no nasty comments.

Actually, I the real reason isn't to prove that I'm human, because I'm sure you can tell, I'm human all right. The real reason is I think I look quite funny fugly tonight and I just had to post a picture. Take a look if you dare.

If you are blinded by what you have just witnessed, you have no right to sue me because I warned you in the beginning.

The collage totally screams, "WTF, am I back in 8th grade?!!>?!" and I think I look like a teenager going through puberty. My sister made fun of my retainers and told me to talk properly. Hey! I can't help that I have a lisp. I tell her to shutup, but as you know my "shutup" turns out funny and ruins the whole power of the word.

I had a dentist appointment yesterday and my dentist finally caught me in my not-wearing-retainers crime. I haven't been caught until now, it's been what, 5 years? Hence, I am wearing them 24/7 hoping that my teeth will shift back to its straight shape or else dear mommy and daddy will be shelling out a few more Benjamins for a pair of new retainers. I didn't know I had to wear them forever. I did know after I found out a few years ago, but I'm a ortho rebel. Rawr.

There you go. I have revealed my ugly to the whole wide world and it has never felt better. Or maybe my ugly has been out all this time in my posts and pictures except that I was too biased to notice. The picture may not seem all that bad, but trust me, if you zoom closer, it's all there. I got the pimples, the dried pimples, the dead pimples that won't go away. There's the un-smooth skin, blotchy red spots, spotty dirt filled pores, boogers, extra long nose hair, eye bags, and good ole retainers. I've got the works. I call it combination like combination pizza, I got combination ugly.

In a way I think being ugly gives you character. I prefer old people with their massive wrinkles and sprinkled on aging spots to young people because their unbeauty gives them character.

Free your ugly. It's dying to get out every once in a while and it'll save you the hassle as well from trying to keep it hidden. Smile big with your colorful retainers, wear your retainers out to town, leave your eyes unlined. But don't do it too often because, well, then that'll just be ugly.

I shall go to sleep soon. Resting and dreaming and letting my ugly roam the night. Hopefully, the morning will come and my ugly will have wandered back to it's home. But I do not mind if it doesn't peacefully go back. I'll let it hold on to me as long as it needs because as my theory goes, everyone has an ugly.

Having an ugly is nothing to be ashamed of. After all it's just natural beauty.

Dudeness...

I always strongly believed that the day I started enjoying asian dramas would be the day that an emu with pink tutu and matching ballet flats visit my dorm room.

That day has come....

A Story of the End of my Thrifted Shoes

Once upon a lalaland time there were a pair of thrifted shoes that looked wicked (pun intended) with yellow tights.

They traveled.
and traveled...

and traveled...

and traveled...

and traveled
until they met their untimely demise in the trashcan. Goodbye my sweet shoes. I will miss you so.

Who would have known throwing away shoes could be so symbolic of life. Don't think so? I'm still a little of out of it these days and thinking all deep and philosophically just comes with the package of being out of it.

And before I forget to say this in other posts. I want to give a big warm and joyous thank you to everyone's nice and supportive comments. Why do you guys rock so much? I think it's because when you were a fetus awesomeness nutrients entered your mom's womb and seeped into your tiny bodies. I swear. I learned about this in biology so it's pretty legit. Oh and another thing, if you would like to link exchange just comment in this post. I love links and I haven't had time to look through comments and reply back.

Strutting the Milan and Paris Catwalks

My dearest readers, I have finally been able to take a break with all my strutting and sashaying to bring you highlights of the last two of the big five fashion shows - Milan and Paris. And wow what a trip it was. My feet are super tired and super swelled. I didn't think they could get any bigger, but apparently, they can.

So once again, octopus-faced-monkey-haired me was off for a tour-de force modeling rampage. Here were some of my favorite shows by far.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN:

Oh lordy, this man is a fan-frickin-genius. I totally loved the inspiration behind his pieces. Part russian peasant, part elizabethan snob and part indian princess. It was wonderful. Like licking ice cream on a 100 degree day wonderful.

My favorite pieces were the blacks and the poofy swan-esque dresses. And I got to wear the best dress of them all! This gorgeous peacock dress. The stunning beauty of this piece completely overshadowed my mollusk of a face.

So when I got to the studio Alex took one look at me and all the sudden he said "Peacock" and that was it. He never spoke another word to me again, but I will cherish the word "Peacock" in my dreams forever and ever.

I could tell all the other skinny girlies were jealous because I got the coolest dress ever. Or maybe they weren't jealous, maybe that's just how their faces naturally looked like. I'll never know.

It was super fun to get to wear such big hair. I felt like Bozo the clown but way chic. And the dark brows were a definite bonus. I'm sick of seeing girls over pluck their eyebrows. I mean it's okay if you like them pencil thin and all, but in my humble opinion, it just does not look good. We should all riot and get dark over dramatic eyebrows! Anyone with me??

VIKTOR & ROLF

Call them gimmicky and whatnot, but what can I say? I love me some gimmicks. Before the show, I headed over to their studio. I brought with me a pair of nerd glasses and a skinny tie and together we all took pictures in "cue" fashion. It was great.

Viktor & Rolf were one of my favorite shows and designers in general. I love their concepts and their exaggerations of everything. Staples as seams? Wonderful. Now I know what to do with my boxes of staples.

Apparently this season they were inspired by "No". Saying 'no' to the fast pace of consumerism within fashion.

I say that "no" has never looked better. Taking such a negative word and making it so awesome-sauce is no easy feat. Who would have thought of having 3-D words protrude out from an otherwise Parisian chic grey coat? I got to wear the "Dream On" coat and felt so special because no "NO" message was plastered on me. I would totally wear this coat out but I'm afraid I'll get stuck in the door or hit someone while I'm waiting in line at the salad bar. They might look at me all funny, but then I'll just show my innocent face and tell them "dream on, man, just dream on".

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD:

I met up with Ms. Westwood again for her second show in Paris. Prior to the show we partied it up like punk stars. Surprisingly, I was not tired at all the next day and neither was she. She's that amazing.

Her collection reminded me of the cartoon Recess. They had these kindergartens who were like in tribal gear all the time. If you know what I'm talking about, mad pros to you. So they were these kindergartners who wore face paint and had their little headbands and this show totally reminded me of that.

Everything was so fun. Fun is a major element I look for when viewing fashion.

I loved the printed paint pieces. When fashion and art intermix it makes my heart fill with glee!

I got to wear this super chic top and shorts combination. It's sort of a common look but the cut-out details were so nice that I was super ecstatic. I think we should wear face paint every day with our dark eyebrows. That will be totally awesome.

ICEBERG:

My one and only collection from Milan. I got so behind in documenting the other weeks that Milan just slipped right by. I was too excited for Paris.

So Iceberg. I loved the superhero inspiration. When I was a young lass I had this guilty pleasure of watching Power Rangers. I used to dream of being the secret love child of the Pink Ranger and the White Ranger. I didn't know how that would exactly work out seeing as I'm Asian and they were both not asian. I should have dreamed about Trini, the Yellow Ranger, as my mom instead but somehow Pink Ranger appealed to me more. I told you I was a weird child.

I got to wear this cat ears hood/beanie which totally made my day. Without it, I would have just been a giant ball of blue. But with them, I was transformed into a blue giant puffed cat. I think Halle Berry should have contacted IceBerg for this costume instead of her disastrous wardrobe for Catwoman.

JOHN GALLIANO

It's always the theatrical element with Galliano that makes me look forward to his shows each year. His collection wasn't my favorite, but each piece by itself, I bet would look wonderful.

So Galliano and I go way back. Like way back. We're like BFF's. We're totally tight.

Okay. I'm just BSing. Every story needs a little BSing though, I think.

I strutted down in this MC Hammer pants. Thank god because I hadn't worked out my thighs the night before. In fact, I had binged on deep dish pizza. Shhh..don't tell anyone.

There was a variety of inspirational influences. I felt a bit of the Jamaican reggae with my dark braided dreads.

TAO COMME DES GARCONS:

I have a very special place in my heart for Japanese designers. Japanese people are crazy. Enough said. They come up with the newest technologies and their street style is just way too advanced for us simple minded folks. They are very into experimenting and experimenting they do well in.

I was happy to be walking in the Comme Des Garcons show because I can now finally pronounce the word without sounded like an idiot.

The collection was so refreshing and took "layering" to a whole new level. The mix of proportions and textures just fit together perfected. I loved the super long sleeves no matter how impractical they are because they remind me of when I was young and the sleeves were too short for my stubs I called arms.

The look seems messy from the outside, but once you look closer you can see how everything is so beautifully planned. Move over Prada, this is the way to totally do lace! (I'm probably one of the few who just didn't feel it with Miuccia's latest collection)

TSUMORI CHISATO:

Okay, this was probably one of my FAVORITEST collections so far this season. I know I say that about everything, but aesthetic wise, this is just totally me. When I saw her clothing I was like wow, if I were a designer these are the types of clothing I would design - fun, colorful, and whimsical.

I fell in love with the prints she used. They looked like watercolors by Matisse or the expressionistic strokes of Van Gogh.

Just seeing the clothing made me happier and that's why I love fashion - the ability to make you happy.

I wore this blue dress with a cape like thing on top of it. I don't what it is with designers and putting me with capes. I wore a cape in the Anne Sui runway if I remember correctly. I tend to hallucinate a lot these days.

Tsumori told me it's because I have a face made for a cape. Huh. Okay. Alright.

Well, it was a nice fall winter season this year. I'm so surprised that so many designers actually casted me, but what can I say, I'm just that great. I should go now before my ego inflates even bigger. Until next season, ciao lovelies.

P.S If anyone actually read through all of this let me know and I will give you an online hug!
